New Lincoln MKC on Sale Soon
The 2015 Lincoln MKC, an all-new model previewed in this blog, made its world debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show and goes on sale soon this summer at car dealerships in London Ontario after an appearance as a concept car earlier this year in Detroit. Part of a family of compacts that include the Ford Focus and the Ford Escape, the MKC’s premium interior and powerful drivetrains distinguish it from those relatives. A stylish version of the standard crossover, the new Lincoln MKC sports a slim front end with a split-wing grille. At the back the full-width taillight and two-piece tailgate execute a smooth design.
The driver uses pushbuttons instead of a shift lever to operate the transmission. The infotainment system’s screen has large knobs for tuning and volume adjustments and switches for climate control on the center console. Leather and wood trim give the cabin a feeling of luxurious comfort and high class.
The new Lincoln MKC has an optional powertrain distinct from that of the similar Ford Fusion, which shares its base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with the top models of the Ford Escape crossover. This standard engine puts out 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The optional 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine is good for 275 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque to compete with six-cylinder rivals. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive optional.
With outputs of 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, a six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive, acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour should be under 7.0 seconds while fuel economy should be well over 20 miles per gallon for a combined city/highway rating. All MKCs will have 18- or 19-inch wheels and shock absorbers with comfort, normal, and sport settings for either front- or all-wheel drive.
The new Lincoln MKC should be a strong in safety with seven airbags and stability control as standard features. Also standard are blind-spot monitors, a collision warning system, and a camera-controlled lane-keeping system. The standard SYNC with Bluetooth migrates from safety to infotainment. Other MKC luxury features are proximity illumination and a data device for remote unlocking, fuel supply checks, and climate control settings.
Recent sales trends show luxury crossovers among fast-growing new-car market segments. The 2015 new Lincoln MKC, one of the latest, will share its mechanical identity with the Ford Escape but with a wider stance, a distinctive split-wing grille, a wraparound tailgate, light-emitting diode taillights, a sculpted hood and wheel arches, and dark chrome finish on the wheels for eye-catching yet understated styling. Inside, there are buttons and knobs for tactile control of climate and multimedia, not touchscreens. The center console retains a touchscreen but not as the only way to make adjustments. Leather seats and panels and wood trim make the cabin environment inviting.
In the compact crossover class, the MKC faces tough competition from the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, Buick Encore, BMW X1/X3, Mercedes GLK, and the new Porsche Macan. The Lincoln MKC goes on sale starting at $33,995 at Courtesy Ford Lincoln, a family-owned and operated car dealership in London Ontario at 684 Wharncliffe Rd South serving families for nearly 20 years.
